Funeral services for Ernie Stevens will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00-8:00 p.m. at Scandia Lutheran Church with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Ernie William Stevens, son of William and Nellie (Windmeyer) Stevens, was born December 22, 1929 in Centerville, SD. He died August 23, 2008 at the age of 78 years, eight months and one day. Ernie was born on the family farm where he lived for 77 years of his life. He was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1948. Ernie married Delores Maschino on June 27, 1953. Ernie farmed for 53 years and shelled many ears of corn! He ran the township maintainer for many years. Ernie was happiest when working on the farm and being with his family. Grateful for sharing his life include his wife, Delores of 55 years; four children, Allen (Carol) Stevens, Sherrie (Rich) Menigoz, Doug (Jan) Stevens and Kristie (Scott) Pingrey all of Centerville, SD; two sisters, Eva Shafer of Brandon, SD and Alice Richards of Washburn, ND; three brothers, Clarence (Margaret) of Beresford, Ervin (Lois) of Centerville and Arnold (Carolyn) of Vermillion; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Helen Maschino and many friends. His parents, father-in-law, four brothers-in-law, one niece and two nephews preceded him in death.
