Ernest E. Johnson was born February 1, 1914 in Wilmar, Minnesota to Joseph and Julia (Swanson) Johnson. He died May 18, 2008 in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 94 years, three months and 17 days. As a baby, Ernest moved with his parents and sister to Union County, SD where he graduated from North Spink School. He has been a farmer all his life, starting at a young age at his uncle and aunts farm. He married Vivian Solem September 30, 1949 at Roseni Lutheran Church then moved to a farm where they farmed for 55 years. Ernest did some trucking in the 1970s. He and Vivian retired into Beresford and have lived at the Bethesda Inn since December 2004. Ernest served as an usher and trustee at Roseni Lutheran Church and he was a member of the Nora School Board. He loved to watch baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins, and go fishing. Ernest also did some hunting and liked to work with horses. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; daughter, Darlene Dreeszen of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Darcie Storms and husband Joshua of Plymouth, MN; Step-grandsons and step-great-grandchildren, Wade and wife Tonia Dreeszen (Madelyn, Macey, and Jarrett) and Chad and wife Roxanne Dreeszen (Anthony and Alexandria) all of Sioux City, IA; and two brothers, Duane Johnson and wife Delores of Beresford and Harlan Johnson and wife Argie of Lavaca, AR. His parents; two sisters, Ruby Anderson and Alma Swanson; and son-in-law, Douglas Dreeszen preceded him in death. Funeral services for Ernest Johnson will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Roseni Lutheran Church rural Beresford, SD. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
