Engeline Jean Hovdenes was born April 21, 1924 in Sioux Falls, SD to parents Henry and Elsie (Hartmann) Coehoorn. She died April 4, 2010 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 13 days.
Engeline attended school in Sioux Falls. She married Kenneth Hovdenes on January 19, 1947 in Sioux Falls. Kenneth worked for the government and the family lived in various places in the Midwest, moving to Beresford in 1964. Engeline worked at the bakery and was a homemaker. Kenneth died November 15, 1991. Engeline moved to Bethesda in 2006 and resided there until her death.
Engeline was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and later became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Engeline was an artist and enjoyed oil painting. She crocheted and sewed and often made her own clothing. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Francis in infancy and two brothers, Gerben and Kenneth.
Her survivors include two sons, Dennis Hovdenes and wife Corrine of Minneapolis, MN and Terry Hovdenes of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Gloria Mullinix and husband Gary of Aurora, MO and Karen Myron of Vermillion; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00PM, Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford. Burial will be held at a later date at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 5PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
