Emily Alice (Hansen) Sorensen was born November 29, 1930 to William Fredrick & Viola M. (Marshall) Hansen in Eagle Butte, SD. She entered into Heaven November 30, 2024 at the age of 94, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Emily married Harlen Harvey Sorensen on May 25, 1952. They lived on the farm near Beresford, SD.

Emily worked at multiple sewing factories and was a house keeper at the Super 8 hotel. She made the pies and Sunday chicken at Truck Town Café; she was well known for being a wonderful cook and baker. She took great pride and joy in her family.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Isabell Wevik; and two brothers, Bud & George Hansen.

Surviving family members include her five children: Jerry and Joyce Hansen of Beresford, Helen Sorensen of Beresford, Bill & Judy Sorensen of Beresford, Jim Sorensen of Lennox, and Susie Sorensen of Beresford; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-children.

As per her wishes, Emily decided to donate her body to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The funeral service will be 7PM on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7PM Friday at the funeral home. The family requests memorials be directed to St. Croix Hospice, 6330 S Western Ave., Suite 100, Sioux Falls, SD  57108.
