Elroy Palmer was born March 9, 1928 in North Dakota to Ted and Esther (Krause) Palmer. He died June 17, 2013 at Bethesda of Beresford in Beresford, SD at the age of 85 years, three months and eight days. Elroy was raised in North Dakota and attended Wahpeton State School of Science for aircraft mechanics. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. On October 8, 1950 he married Betty Lou Gast. Following his honorable discharge, Elroy completed management training and worked as a coop manager in several communities in ND. They moved to Beresford in 1975 where Elroy managed Truck Towne and worked at several other jobs, including working at a dairy operation and as a handyman, until he retired in 1994. He and Betty moved to Great Bend, ND and enjoyed their retirement years. Elroy was active in the VFW and American Legion. He liked music and was a voracious reader. After he lost his sight, Elroy listened to books on tape. They returned to Beresford in 2004 to be near family. His family includes the 62 year love affair of his life, his dear wife, Betty Lou of Beresford; daughter, Janelle (Rick) Doll of Mandan, ND; two sons, Marc (Belva) Palmer of Littleton, CO and Brent (Ashley) Palmer of Beresford; eight grandchildren, Emily, Hayden, Whitney, Brendon, Josh (Michelle) and Joe Palmer, Justin Doll and Tara (Collin) Frederick; three great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Loghan and Jerrika. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Angie Palmer; and two sisters, Charlotte (Jerry) Field of Mesquite, NV and Janice (Jack) Griffin of Longmeadow, MA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Esther; brother, Danny Nerdahl; two sons, Elroy Jr. and Pat Palmer and one granddaughter, Cassandra Doll. Funeral services for Elroy will be 3PM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
