Eleanor Helen Larson was born November 8, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa to Alfred and Hannah (Knutson) Gunderson, Sr. Eleanor went to be with the Lord September 22, 2014, at her son's home in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 14 days. Eleanor was raised in the Beresford/ Centerville area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She married Lloyd D. Larson June 7, 1939 in Long Beach, CA where he served in the United States Navy. In 1951, they returned to Beresford to raise their family. Eleanor worked for many years at Bethesda Nursing Home as a nurse aid, at Raven Technologies as a seamstress, and as a homemaker. Following Lloyd's death in 1968, she continued to live in Beresford where her main priorities were her faith and her family. Eleanor was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA, including Circle and Women's Bible Study. She was active in the Beresford Senior Citizens and served as its secretary. She made every gathering, family or otherwise, a special event with her amazing hospitality, wonderful cooking, and loving way with everyone she knew. Survivors include her sons, Richard "Dick" (Lois) Larson of Beresford and Don (Shari) Larson of San Diego, CA; her daughter, Linda (Ron) Bertsch of Plattsmouth, NE; 13 grandchildren, Laurie (Mike) Simpson, Paul (Gina) Larson, Pam (Frank) Krause, Debra (Jayson) Vogler, Dana (Steve) Stillman, Darren Larson, Sara (Andy) Neinke, Britta (Dan) Diaz, Beth (Mark) Holdridge, Jeremy (Amber) Bertsch, Kari (John) Halweg, Kevin (Jessica) Bertsch, and Kris (Julia) Bertsch; 27 great- grandchildren, her sister, Gloria Lundgren and brother Carroll Gunderson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 4sisters and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be 4-8PM Friday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-8PM. The family requests memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Parish Health Program, Beresford Senior Citizens Center or Sanford Hospice Program.
