Elda J. Hansen was born weighing a fragile 3 pounds on May 28, 1927 in Lennox, SD to parents Edward and Sadie (Kuper) Hammerstrom. She died December 4, 2006 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 6 days. Elda moved to Canton as a young girl and attended school there. She married George Marshall Hansen on December 2, 1951. They had one son, Randy. The couple lived and farmed north of Beresford on Georges family farm. George died in September of 2004. Elda then moved to the Bethesda Home in Beresford and has resided there until the present time. She attended Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church where she was active in White Cross and WMS. While living at the Bethesda Home, Elda enjoyed receiving manicures and playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her father, husband, brother Luverne Hammerstrom, 2 brothers-in-law Bill Hansen and Harlan Sorensen and sister-in-law Isabel Wevik. Her survivors include her mother Sadie Hammerstrom of Beresford; son Randy Hansen and wife Brenda of Beresford; grandchildren: Daniel Hansen of Winona, MN, Jenny Hansen of Sioux Falls and Adam Hansen of Beresford; twin sister Elva Atwood and husband Mearl of Sioux Falls; brother Duane Hammerstrom and wife Ella Mae of San Antonio, TX; two sisters-in-law: Alyce Hammerstrom of Canton and Emily Sorensen of Beresford; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10AM, Friday, December 8, 2006 at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church, rural Beresford with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
