Elaine Violet (Hustrulid) Hedeen was born December 9, 1930, on the family farm east of Beresford, SD, to parents Bert and Ruth (Albin) Hustrulid. She died April 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 9 days. Elaine attended Gothland country school, graduated from Beresford High School in 1949, and then started working at Moon Ben Franklin. She married Darrel Hedeen on June 21, 1952 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple lived in rural Beresford where Elaine was a farm wife and raised 5 children. Darrel died on April 12, 1998. Elaine moved to Bethesda Nursing Home later that year and has resided there until her death. Elaine was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She was very talented and loved doing handiwork and crocheting. She made many doilies, crosses, butterflies, afghans and quilts. She made afghans and quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jeffrey, 5 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by 4 children, Daniel (Holly) Hedeen, Beresford, Sandra (David) Van Ballegooyen, Beresford, Timothy (Maureen) Hedeen, Beresford and Debra (Rodney) Hughes, Harrisburg, SD; daughter-in-law Wendy Hedeen, Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren, Lauren (Jason) Aldren, Kindra Hedeen, Robert Van Ballegooyen, Ryan (Anne) Van Ballegooyen, Rachel Hedeen, James Hedeen, Mason Hedeen, Dillon Steever, Leanna (Keith) Holter, Neil Hedeen, Russel Hughes, Andrew Hughes, and Christopher Hughes; 2 step-grandchildren, Alyssia Norrod and Jay Walz; 10 great grandchildren, Cullen, Braylon, Anthony, Isaiah, Myah, Brynn, Gavin, Mason, Adrianna, and Easton; a brother Palmer Hustrulid and a sister Phyllis Lundberg both of Beresford; special sister-in-law Marla Henderson, Centerville; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, April 22, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, with burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Sunday from 3PM to 5PM with a prayer service at 4PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
