Eileen LaVerne Grieb was born January 15, 1931 near Spink in rural Union County, SD, to parents Arnold and Frances (Christensen) Anderson. She died September 18, 2013 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 82 years. Eileen attended Brule Creek district #50 and then began working in homes in the area helping families and later at the Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls. She moved to California where she worked as a nurse's aid at Washington Township Hospital in Fremont. She married Charles Grieb on January 16, 1965. The couple lived in California, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Oregon. In 1971 they moved to Beresford where Eileen worked as a custodian for the Beresford School and Crossroads Motel. Eileen was a member of Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church where she helped in the nursery and was the secretary for WMS. In her free time she enjoyed doing word search puzzles and watching baseball and football on TV with the Oakland A's and Raiders as her favorite teams. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Frances Anderson, her husband Charles, a brother Shernold Anderson, a sister Verlyn Eckert, a nephew Marlin Fickbohm and a great nephew Trinity Jacobsen. Survivors include her daughter Tammy Grieb of Beresford; son Shawn Grieb and his fiancé Christa of Prague, NE; two grandchildren, Erika and Jacob Grieb and Soren Mahoney who she considered a second grandson; a brother Leland (Sandra) Anderson, Modesto, CA; two sisters, Joan (Donald) Fickbohm, Sioux Falls and Maurine Heiser, Marietta, GA; sister-in-law Marcella Gabel, Sioux Falls, brother-in-law Kenneth Eckert, Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church, rural Beresford, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
