Edward Compston Peter, III, passed away peacefully June 8, 2021, after a brave battle with lung cancer. Born May 20, 1955, to Lt. Gen. Edward C. Peter, II, and Jean Foresteire Peter.  "Ed" grew up travelling the world in a military family, living in the Philippines, Belgium, Hawaii and many other US states, and touring France, Germany, and Spain. After graduating from high school, he attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, becoming a master painter and sculptor.

Truly a "Renaissance Man" he enjoyed over the years surfing in Hawaii, playing guitar, becoming a skilled photographer, fishing in the Florida Keys with his father, gourmet cooking and bread-making, acquiring a broad knowledge of many subjects (especially history), and enjoying nature.

Edward is survived by his sisters and their husbands, Jean and Ronald Larsen of Beresford, SD, Mary and Dr. Keith Kirby of Savannah, GA, and Anita and David Brubaker of Tucson, AZ; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Blessed with a strong Catholic faith, wonderful sense of humor, deep patriotism for his country, and a kind heart, Ed will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank Father David Roehrich, Pastor of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Beresford, for his personal ministry to Ed, and to thank the staff at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, for their attentive and compassionate care.

Edward's funeral mass will be 11:00 AM, Friday, June 18, 2021 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford, SD with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Beresford, South Dakota.
