Edward Carlson was born May 2, 1935 near Vermillion, SD. His parents were Ernest W. Carlson and Effie (Lundberg) Carlson. He attended Newdale country school in his early years and graduated from Beresford High School in 1953. After graduation from high school Ed moved to Minneapolis, MN where he worked in the construction industry for a few years; but along with his Faith, his next true love was farming, so he returned to the Beresford area. There he was united in marriage on June 10, 1961 to Carol (Peterson) Carlson. Two sons were born to this union: Tim (wife Lynn; son Alex and daughter Allie) Chanhassen, MN and Taylor, Spearfish, SD. They continued to farm in rural Beresford until his passing. Ed also worked in the Residential Life department at the University of South Dakota for many years where his love for the Lord led him to witness to many students and co-workers. Ed was a life-long member of Dalesburg Baptist Church. His love for music led him to sing in quartets and the choir. He also taught Sunday school; helped with vacation Bible school; led Bible studies; served as a deacon; a trustee and witness to many about Christ. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Dalesburg softball team and enjoyed the many games at Hub City. Ed is survived by his wife Carol; sons Tim and Taylor; two sisters, Eileen Anderson Stewart (Lee) Duarte, California, Harriet Carlson (Ernie) Beresford; brother Roger (Karen) Kearney, NE; sister-in-law Lorraine (Don) Carlson Beresford and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Effie; an infant son Troy; and his brothers Lester and Don. Ed will always be remembered for his warm smile, sense of humor, friendliness, practical wisdom and sincere interest in others. We will be sustained by his belief - with Faith, Family and Friends we can get through any difficult situation. Well done good and faithful servant. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Dalesburg Baptist Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
