Edna Virginia Vik was born August 12, 1938 to parents Ed and Vivian (Johnson) Vik. She passed away December 23, 2016 at the Centerville Care Center at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 11 days.
Edna was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural school as well as Centerville High School. She shared a home with her parents all of her life. She helped run and maintain Vik's Motel in Viborg for 31 years. While living in Viborg, Edna babysat many kids whom she loved dearly and stayed in touch with them through high school and into their adult lives. She also became an avid fan of the Viborg Vikings and was honored for her loyal support by being given free admission into all their sporting events. When the family sold the motel and moved back to Centerville in 1995, she instantly became a Centerville Tornado. Edna attended all home sporting events, as recent as last winter, and was recognized for her loyalty with an award for being a great fan.
Her nephew Dillon was a spark in her life. If you visited very long with her she would turn the conversation into a brag session about Dillon and his horses. Whenever she saw Dillon, her face lit up with a loving smile. Scandia Lutheran Church was a very important part of her life. Edna loved being involved with the youth and was the Sunday School Secretary for 50 years, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She was also involved in the quilting group and many other church activities. Edna loved going to the Turner County Fair, starting in 1955 and as recently as this past August. For many years she spent the week at the South Dakota State Fair camping with her parents. She collected the free yard sticks from the Fair, and at one time had 386 of them. She also liked to buy "trinkets" and had a passion for costume jewelry.
She is survived by her brother Darrell Vik and his wife Pam and their son Dillon, of Beresford, SD; her niece Danelle Beck and her husband Darin and their daughter Abigail; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Scandia Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
