Eddie Leu Newberg was born May 16, 1930 in LeMars, IA to parents Paul and Opal (Engeman) Edwards. She died July 25, 2012 at her home in Akron, IA at the age of 82 years. Eddie Leu attended Big Springs country school and graduated from Alcester High School in 1948. After high school she worked for local businesses in Alcester. Eddie Leu married Paul Newberg on September 1, 1950 at Big Springs Baptist Church. The couple lived in various communities in the Midwest while they followed Paul's job with the railroad. In 1957 they moved to Wasau, NE where they owned and operated a grocery store. In 1978 they moved to Akron, IA where Eddie Leu was a babysitter for her grandchildren along with many kids in the community. She also worked for various businesses in Akron. While in Wasau, Eddie Leu was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and served in several roles. She also was a Boy and Girl Scout leader and was a member of a ladies Pinochle club for many years. After moving to Akron, Paul and Eddie Leu returned to Big Springs where she served in many roles as well and enjoyed being with her church family. Eddie Leu enjoyed baking cookies and cooking, doing word puzzles, reading, and was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Her greatest joy in life was her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family and friends have many memories of Eddie Leu's encouragement, love, and support. She had a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior and was a faithful prayer warrior. She is survived by her husband Paul of Akron; 2 sons, Kyle of Anaheim, CA and Kirk and wife Debbie of Omaha, NE; 2 daughters, Melia Small and husband Brian of Akron and Jewel Authier of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren, Adam (Samantha) Small of Sioux Falls, Tyler (Jenny) Small of Akron, Shannon Small of Sioux Falls, Levi Small and Skye Small of Akron, and Noel Newberg and Nels Newberg of Omaha; her great grandson Colby Small; 1 brother, 5 sisters; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, July 30, 2012 at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, SD, with burial in the church cemetery.
