Duane C. Forslund, age 84, of Alcester, South Dakota died July 16, 2026 in Alcester. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Thursday, July 23rd at Union Creek Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7PM Wed., July 22nd at Wass Funeral Chapel in Alcester.
Duane was born April 10, 1942 in Akron, Iowa to Walfrid and Irene (Carr) Forslund. He was raised on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, attended Hoyt Country School and graduated from Akron High School. Duane served in the SD Army National Guard and farmed all his adult life while always helping neighboring farmers and working at Coil Craft.
He married Carol Vande Pol at Union Creek Lutheran Church Nov. 22, 1986. They retired into Alcester in 2015 due to Duane’s Parkinsons. Duane enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins and hosting parties on Independence Day as well as enjoying grandchildrens' school activities.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Walfrid and Irene Forslund; son Brian Klemme; infant grandson "Baby" Klemme, brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Linda) Forslund; and brother-in-law, Mike Rollinger.
Duane is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Forslund; sons, Jeff (Kristie) Klemme; Matt (Kylie) Klemme; his twin sister, Elaine (Burton “Buck”) Swift; sister, Nancy Rollinger; seven grandsons, Christopher (Katie) Klemme, Keagan Klemme, Evan Klemme, Bennett Klemme, Daniel Anzua, David Klemme, and Jerman Topete; two granddaughters, Brooke (Aaron) Reichter and Gabriella Anzua; three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Roman and Wesley; daughters-in-law, Beatrice “Betty” Anzua and Cathy Klemme.
