Dorothy Johnson was born August 27, 1922 to Issac and Tillie (Ostrem) Olsen near Centerville, SD. She died November 23, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 26 days.
She attended Pleasant View Country and graduated from Centerville High School in 1940. After graduation Dorothy attended Augustana College and later worked for the Centerville Telephone Company. On October 7, 1943, Dorothy married Roy E. Johnson at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville.
Dorothy enjoyed life as a wonderful farmwife cooking numerous meals for family, friends and hired help. She was an avid Twins, Centerville Tornado, and University of Sioux Falls Cougar fan. Dorothy was a member of the Dalesburg Baptist Church, Laides Aide, Centerville Garden Club and Library Club. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting afghans, quilting, baking, and going to exercise class.
Grateful for sharing her life are her son Gordon R. Johnson and wife Margaret of Centerville, SD; daughter LeAnne Austin and husband Tom of Centerville; her grandchildren. Todd (Nikki) Johnson, Kristin (Scott) Ebert, Rebecca (Nate) Solberg, Lee (Daina) Austin, Stephanie (Nick) Myers, Jill Austin, Jessica Austin, and eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Lane, Colter, Hannah, Molly, Sarah, Lily and Emma; 2 sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson of Centerville and Mary Jean Olsen of Sun City, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, parents Issac and Tillie, sisters Marguerite and JoAnna, and brothers Clarence, Everett, Eugene and Ike.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Dalesburg Baptist Church, rural Centerville, with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville.
