Dorothy E. Christiansen, 92, of Beresford, SD died Jan. 19, 2013 at Bethesda of Beresford. Memorial services will be 9:30AM Thursday, Jan. 31st at Bethesda of Beresford and burial will be this spring at Rockfield Cemetery, rural Beresford. Dorothy Elizabeth Nelson was born September 14, 1920 in Blair, Nebraska to Otto and Minnie (Erickson) Nelson. She died January 19, 2013 in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, four months and five days. She was raised in Blair until her mother died when Dorothy was six years old. She lived with her grandmother in Newcastle, NE and graduated from Newcastle High School. Dorothy moved to Sioux City, IA and worked as a nurse aid in St. Joseph Hospital where she was introduced to William Christiansen. On May 18, 1957 they were united in marriage at Parker, SD. They lived in Beresford where Dorothy worked as a nurse aid for 26 ½ years. Following William's death in 1972, Dorothy continued to make her home in Beresford. She moved into Bethesda in 2005. Dorothy liked to crochet and was a member of the First Assembly Church. She is survived by her step-daughter, Darlene (Enoch) Bakken of Detroit Lakes, MN; special cousin, David (Carolyn) Nelson of Springfield, MO; several nieces and nephews and many friends in Beresford. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
