Donna Jean (Anderson) Zweifel was born a twin on December 26, 1937 on the family farm north of Beresford in Lincoln County, South Dakota to Harold and Ruby (Johnson) Anderson. She died August 26, 2022 at her home in Beresford with family at her side at the age of 84 years and 6 months.
Her faith began at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church where she was confirmed. She was baptized as an adult at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Beresford where she was a member for over fifty years. Donna received eight years of her education at North Star Country School #49. She graduated from Beresford High School where, in her senior year, she was voted "Queen of the Class" in 1954-55. After school, she worked at the Drive Inn of Beresford, the Beresford Bakery, and sanded and finished hardwood floors.
On January 2, 1957, Donna was married on her parents' 25 th wedding anniversary, to Lowell Zweifel. They had four sons. Donna lived and worked alongside her husband on the family farm for 30 years. She also worked as head cook at Marty's Café, cleaned at Woodfield Center, and cleaned Mr. and Mrs. Finger's home. Donna then worked for 21 years with developmentally disabled individuals at Sioux Vocational Services of Sioux Falls. She retired in 2008 stating that "She didn't like retirement, but finally got used to it".
She loved playing with and enjoying her grandchildren. Her many hobbies included: making and giving away over 80 quilts, bowling, golfing, fishing, traveling, reading, coffee parties, playing cards and games, and going out to eat with friends. Donna also liked the music of Elvis Presley (gospel), Lawrence Welk, Daniel O'Donnell, and Whitney Houston.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four sons, Calvin of Beresford, Douglas (Esther Lyn) of Anchorage, AK, Alan (Leslie) of Rapid City, and Daryl (Sheri) of Beresford; sister, Marie (Don) Thompson of Sioux Falls; brother, Raymond (Jan) Anderson of Centerville; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Ricky) Lenertz, Stephanie (Joel) Hammond, Rebecca Donnelly, Randy (Hayli) Zweifel, Ryan (Lexee) Zweifel, Reilly (Billy Jones) Zweifel, Jacob Zweifel, Johnathan Zweifel and Jalynn Zweifel; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her aunt, Delores Johnson; and uncle, Freeman Swanstrom.
Preceding her in death were her parents; twin brother and his wife; Donald (Carol) Anderson; brothers-in-law, Jim Zweifel and Paul Zweifel ; step-mother, Martha Anderson; nephews, Gaylord Johnson and Tyler Vacek; and nieces, Connie Zweifel, Kayla Larsen, and Laura Beam.
Visitation will be from 5-7PM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, prayer service at 7PM; funeral service at 10AM Thursday, September 1st at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford; burial service to follow at Brooklyn Cemetery. The family would like anyone who has received a quilt from Donna to bring it for display to the funeral service.
