Donald Karl Stotz was the only child of Selma (Bielau) Stotz and Karl Stotz. He was born on the family homestead near Hooker, SD on February 12, 1938. Don's first language was German, but his parents chose to speak only English to prepare him for first grade in a one-room school near his home. He attended Centerville High School where he enjoyed FFA. After graduation in 1956, Don helped his Dad on the farm before joining the Air National Guard. This allowed him to help on the family farm while supporting his country for the next six years. Don met Holly Breen of Hurley, SD on July 4th at nearby Swan Lake. They married in '64 and began their life together on a farm adjacent to Don's parents. Don and Holly had three children: Michelle, Shari, and David; whom they raised on the farm & encouraged to support their communities through church, 4-H, sports and music activities. Don served on Boards for the Turner County Fair, the Viborg Hospital, the Viborg Lumber Yard, and his church for most of his adult life. Don always had a project underway, he enjoyed wood and metal working and created many treasured pieces. He also took pride in his apple trees and he enjoyed sharing many bushels with friends. His greatest joy was probably the cabin he built at Swan Lake. Family & friends enjoyed many wonderful times there. Don is survived by his loving wife Holly of 50 years, his three children and six grandchildren. Family: Michelle and Dan Gels and children Ethan (14), Lilly (11) and Levi (9) of Birmingham, AL.
