Donald C. Andrews was born December 28, 1926 near Akron, IA, to parents Clarence and Clara (Knecht) Andrews. He passed away on May 26, 2014 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 28 days. Don grew up on the family farm. He entered the United States Military in March of 1945. As he was going overseas, V.E Day and V.J. Day were happening. Don was stationed in Hawaii where he served as an M.P. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and resumed farming. He married Elaine Girard on August 21, 1954. The couple made their home in the rural Beresford area where Don farmed and shelled corn for many years. He stayed actively involved with farming until his death, helping his sons as often as he could. Elaine passed away on December 23, 2005 and Don continued to live in Beresford until the current time. Don was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Beresford VFW. He played baseball until he was 42. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He would go to coffee most days with his friends, looked forward to going for a drive in his pickup, and liked attending tractor pulls with his son Allen. Farming was Don's life and he stayed connected with this passion until the very end. Don loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be remembered by them for his sense of humor and love of family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine and a brother Melvin "Bud". He is survived by his three children, Kay (Royal) Zweifel, Larry (JoLee) Andrews and Allen (Angel) Andrews, all of Beresford; 10 grandchildren, Lori Laurvick, Beresford, Luke Zweifel, Ottumwa, IA, Lisa Zweifel, Sioux Falls, Elizabeth (Cory) Simonsen, Centerville, Chad (Hillary) Andrews, Brady Andrews, Chris Andrews, Shaun (Krista) Andrews, Jason (Kiandra) Andrews, all of Beresford, and Tara (Brad) Kappenman, Albuquerque, NM; 10 great grandchildren, Rylie, Aubrie, Taelin, Ashton, Brody, Brandon, Morgan, Jamal, Mia, Mason and 2 more expected this fall; his sister Arabelle Peterson, Alcester; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. Teresa Catholic Church with burial to follow at Emmett Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 6PM to 8PM with a wake service at 7PM.
