Donald W. Heinzman was born July 24, 1944 in Beresford, SD to parents Walter and Esther (Westling) Heinzman. He died June 10, 2007 at Sanford Vermillion Hospital at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 16 days. Don attended Rainyvale rural school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1964. He married Elvera Ekle in 1967. The couple has lived in the Beresford area all their married lives. Don farmed, worked construction, and owned a heavy equipment business. He retired due to poor health in 2004 and continued to reside in Beresford until the present time. Don was baptized in the United Church of Christ and later became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. He enjoyed working is his shop where he would weld and make many things out of steel. He often gave his creations away as gifts to his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill and sister-in-law Arlene, nephew Scott Heinzman and great nephew Tanner Copeland. His survivors include his wife Elvera of Alcester; son Donald and wife Janet of Sioux Falls; two daughters: Dawn Gross and husband Tony of Jefferson, SD and Christal Stoker and husband Scott of Vermillion; 10 grandchildren: Josh Gross, Steve Gross, Katie Heinzman, Zach Gross, Jessica Stoker, Robert Stoker, Christina Stoker, Katie Lonning, Laura Lonning and Jason Lonning; brother Bob Heinzman of Bogue Chitto, MS and sister Carol Smith of Alcester, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11AM, Thursday, June 14 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
