Dolores M. Mickelson, age 86, passed away January 23, 2011 at her home in Alcester, SD. A Celebration of Life service will be 1:30PM Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 at the Alcester United Church of Christ.
Dolores was born in Chicago, IL August 30, 1924 the oldest of eight children. She was raised in Chicago and worked as a cook and at Woolworths until moving to Los Angeles, CA in 1956. There she worked as a cook at a Senior Citizens Center and cared for her parents. She moved to Vermillion, SD in 1972 and ran Dees Coffee Shop through 1974 before moving to Oregon. She lived there until moving to Alcester to be near her family in 2003.
She will be remembered as a great cook by her grandchildren; she was an expert at making patty melts and spaghetti sauce. Dolores was famous for her sour cream coffee cake.
She is survived by her three sisters, Mae, Jean and Barbara; three brothers, Sonny, Mickey and Danny; two daughters, Cheryl Offerdahl and Kathy (Jim) Scott; three grandchildren, Don Offerdahl, Deb Offerdahl and Susie Scott; a special nephew, Ed Nemeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her son, John; granddaughter, Mary; her parents; husband, Woody and son-in-law, Donald Offerdahl.
