Dolores P. Clay, formerly of Beresford, SD, died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 18 days. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 on Sunday, February 9 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 10 at Centerville Care & Rehab. Memorials may be sent in Dolores' name to Centerville Care & Rehab.
Dolores Hansen was born March 18, 1929 to Leonard and Mildred (Swenson) Hansen in Los Angeles, CA. She spent her younger years in the Greenfield area and graduated from Beresford High School.
She met her future husband, George Clay, when he had returned to Beresford, following his enlistment in the service. They married on September 19, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD and were blessed with their four daughters. Dolores and George worked their farm together. There was always plenty to do on the farm and she did it all.
Dolores was proud of her girls and showed them her strong work ethic which included "chores before fun". As her girls grew up, she enjoyed their events and spending time with them. She and George traveled all over the country together and would visit friends and family whenever they could. Her grandchildren were very important to her and she was blessed to have quality "grandma time" with them. She followed their activities and cheered them on in all aspects of their lives, even thinking she could still perform cartwheels and tumbling with them. She was an animal lover, a perfectionist with her needlework and was a true-blue Twins fan.
Dolores is survived by her loving husband, George, Centerville, SD; her daughters, Diane Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy (Gary) Hansen, Eagan, MN and Faye (Roger) Schoellerman, Beresford, SD; 10 grandchildren, Chad Johnson, Rhonda TeKrony, Tim Hansen, Andrea (Dan) Murphy, Kelly (Ryan) Darwitz, Brandie (Dan) Zandstra, Cory (Stephanie) Schoellerman, Cody Schoellerman, Casey (Courtney) Schoellerman and Colby Schoellerman; and 13 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Marlie and Makenzie TeKrony, Layla and Lexi Hansen, Ryley and Kinsley Darwitz, Cortney, Charles, Casandra and Christopher Schoellerman, Holt Zandstra and Della Schoellerman.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Georgia; her parents, Leonard and Mildred Hansen, her brother, Arden Hansen; and her son-in-law, Tom Johnson.
