Diane Rae Landon, 86, left this earthly body surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 31st at Bethesda Nursing Home.

Diane was born September 26, 1932 in Beresford, SD to Ray and Kathryn (Chadwick) Scroggs.  She grew up in Beresford and graduated from Beresford High School in 1950.  She received her nursing degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, MN in 1953.  Diane married her high school sweetheart, John Landon, on October 24, 1953.  They were married for nearly 65 years before John passed away and now, they are happily reunited in Heaven.  They were blessed with four children: Becky, Scott, Shelly, and Jan.

During their early years, John and Diane enjoyed square dancing and card club.  Throughout her life Diane enjoyed a variety of hobbies including: sewing (mostly clothes for her children), bowling, puzzles, travel, and reading.  It also brought her great joy to cheer on her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors - academic, athletic, concerts and programs.

Diane was known as a loving and caring nurse.  She worked as an office nurse for Dr. Lietzke and as a private duty nurse in Canton and Sioux Falls.  She began her 35-year career at Bethesda on September 1st, 1963, where she served as the Director of Nursing for decades, and mentored many. Some of the staff she hired provided extra special care to her during the last few years of her life as a resident at Bethesda and we are forever grateful.

Diane was a life-long member of the Beresford UCC Church.

Diane is survived by children: Becky (Thom) Koehler and their children, Sara (John) Buttemiller, Molly (Adam) Flynn, and Christie (Josh) Aberson. Scott (Sue) Landon, and their children, Paul (Rochelle) Landon, Jeremy (Rachael) Landon and Jonathan Landon.  Shelly (Kent) Nelson and their children, Eric (Serine) Nelson, Amy (Brian) Lueking, Cathy (Matt) Huhnerkoch and Julie (Shaun) Odegaard.  Jan (Kurtis) Oleson and their daughters, Jessica and Mikayla Oleson.  Great-grandchildren: Natalie and Henry Buttemiller, Liam and Max Flynn, Collin, Kate and Andrew Aberson.  Drew Landon, Kyle and Kelsey Landon.  Jaina Nelson, Noah, Landon and Elijah Lueking, Jordyn, Brek and Cassidy Huhnerkoch, and Macy Odegaard. Other family members Don Stuessi, Annabelle Landon, Marv Hass, Fran Scroggs, and Yula and Jim Weber. Numerous special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Diane was preceded in death by her loving husband John, her parents, Ray and Kathryn; sister Joelle Stuessi, brother Kenneth (Butch) Scroggs, brothers-in-law Bob Landon, Verlyn Landon and his wife Shirley; sister-in-law, Mavis Hass, and nephew, Mike Weber.

A Celebration of Diane's Life will be held on Monday, August 5th at Beresford United Church of Christ.  Visitation with family present beginning at 9:00 am and a celebration of Diane's life at 10:30.
