Diana K Wheatley was born November, 19 1941 in Hurley, SD to parents Arling and Esther (Logdson) DuBois. She went home to be with the Lord March 24, 2011 in Vancouver, Washington at the age of 69 years, four months and five days.
Diana was raised on a farm in Centerville and attended Centerville Public School until she married and moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1959. Out of that reunion three sons were born, Michael, David and Patrick Kieffer. Diana and her boys moved back to Centerville and on February 26, 1966 married Louis Wheatley. Out of that reunion one child was born, Darla.
Diana made her home in Centerville where she loved to be outdoors mowing her lawn, fishing, playing with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and would have banana bread ready for visitors that so often would fill her dining room table. Many hours were spent at her house talking, drinking coffee, playing cards and enjoying everyone who walked through her door. Diana also enjoyed crocheting, and made each one of her grandchildren a blanket when they were born. She was especially fond of the United States Flag banners that she made for many friends, family and neighbors.
She was a mother to four, but so many called her Mom. Diana had a warm heart and always had a helping hand for those in need. The last two years Diana spent in Vancouver, Washington with her companion Leslie Butch Freimuth.
Diana is survived by her special friend, Butch; children, Michael of Denver, CO, David of Minnesota and Darla Underwood of Irene, SD; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale, Dick (Linda), Gary (Deb); sisters, Donna (Monte) Zuck and Dawn (Larry) Hansen and sister-in-law, Carol Ann DuBois. Along with numerous family and friends who will miss her deeply. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandma, Nannie; sister, Sue; brother, Donald; son, Patrick; husband, and sister-in-law, Barb DuBois.
Memorial services will be 1PM Thursday, Mar. 31, 2011 at the United Church of Christ in Centerville. A prayer service will be 7PM Wednesday the church.
