Delona Marthea Johnson was born July 7, 1926 to parents August and Martha (Engal) Rasmussen, of rural Beresford, SD. She died February 15, 2008 at Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 8 days. Delona attended Pioneer rural school, graduated from Beresford High School, and attended beauticians school in Sioux Falls. She married Royal Johnson on April 27, 1951. The couple were lifelong residents of Beresford. Delona owned and operated a beauty salon in her home for many years where customers became friends and were recipients of her generous spirit. Royal died in July of 1991 and Delona continued to reside in Beresford until the present time. Delona was a childhood member of Skrefsrud Lutheran Church and later became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness to neighbors, particularly children, friends, customers and family members. She was unselfishly willing to be a caring daughter, sister, wife and sister-in-law in times of family illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Merle, Donald, Arley and Wayne Rasmussen, two sisters, Marie and Helen Rasmussen, a brother in infancy, and two nephews, Jim and Skip Rasmussen Her survivors include her sister Mildred Wevik of Beresford; brothers Bill Rasmussen of Vermillion and Skee Rasmussen and wife Jan of Belvidere, SD; brother-in-law Clifton Johnson of Beresford, sister-in-law LaVonne Johnson of Beresford; special friend June Davies of Yankton, SD; 13 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, with burial at Nazareth Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Monday from 3PM to 8PM with family present from 6PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
