Delmar Kenneth Johnson was born June 27th 1923 to Nels & Christina (Peterson) Johnson.  He attended Sunnyside School and continued farming with his Dad until he joined the US Marine Corps in 1945. He received his training at Camp Lejeune, SC and served in Guam and China and was discharged in October of 1946. He returned to the farm and in November 19, 1955 he married LaVonne Olson at Beaver Valley Church in Valley Springs, SD and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last November.  Together they raised their sons and worked on the farm. Delmar also worked at Fountain International, Peterson John Deere and as a check courier for a company in Sioux Falls.  In 1985, the couple moved the house that he had built on the farm for his parents to Beresford.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; their three children, Bruce (Terri), Bryan (Jean), Brad (Jan); six grandchildren, Kelsi, Carrie, Taylor, Ethan, Caden and Keith; two step grandsons, Clay and Tim; two great-granddaughters, Kate and Nora and very special family friends, David and Marilyn Aaronson.  Dad really cherished the loving care of the Bethesda Nursing Home Staff.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Virgil Johnson and two sisters, Darlene LeMoine and Violet Erickson.

Delmar died May 6, 2016 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 92 years. Memorial services will be 7PM Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with visitation from 6-7PM.
