David Alan Jacobson, 77, of Centerville, SD, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. Born on September 23, 1947, David was known for his extremely kind-hearted nature and love for his family.
David was born in Hudson, SD, to Elmer and JoAnna (Olsen) Jacobson of Centerville, SD. David was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church. He attended Joy Country School and then Centerville Elementary School and Centerville High School. David was active in many activities in high school including football, basketball, track, and FFA. After graduating high school, David attended SDSU where he earned a B.S. Degree in Agriculture Education and was a member of the ROTC; following his graduation, he joined the Army where he was stationed at Fort Polk, LA. He then moved back to Centerville and continued to work in agriculture-related jobs.
David was a true farm boy at heart. His love of animals and nature filled his conversations. He was very knowledgeable in both areas and loved to drive around the area and look at the crops, but if you really wanted to capture his attention, the conversation would switch to sports. He loved to talk about basketball and football, but really, he liked most sports in general. Never one to brag of himself, David was a very talented basketball player in high school. However, if you really wanted to get a good conversation going, the topic would switch to the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
David absolutely adored his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to attend any of their events. He loved to hear about everything they were doing.
David was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and JoAnna Jacobson and his sister Katherine Jacobson. He is survived by his sisters Betty DeLay and Karen (Dale) Leslie; daughters Sylvia (Kevin) Kroger and Stephanie (Tad) Schoeppner; sons Carter (Heather) Jacobson and Patrick Jacobson; grandchildren Caden, Isabelle, Emily, William, Knoxon, and Gracynn; great grandson, Trey; and his former wife, Mary Jacobson. His legacy of kindness will stay with us forever.
