Darrel Eugene Clay, age 69, was born March 22, 1946 to Harold and Doris (Kram) Clay. He grew up north of Beresford, SD, attended Pioneer Grade School, graduated from Beresford High School in 1964, and was a life-long member of the Beresford United Church of Christ. When Darrel was nine years of age, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes; he fought long and hard despite his deteriorating health. Following high school, Darrel was awarded The American Farmer Degree', having completed local chapter and state degrees through FFA. Farming was his passion. He appreciated all aspects of the farm life and was dedicated to his "Red" machinery. He was an avid hunter through the years, especially enjoying deer hunting. Darrel married Joyce Schoellerman, daughter of John and Hazel Schoellerman on August 4, 1968. They lived on a farm north of Beresford their entire married life until Darrel moved to Bethesda Home in Beresford in early 2006 due to failing health. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughters Crystal Clay of Beresford, Dr. Kyla and Daniel Knutson, and his grandchildren Josiah and Bethany of Centerville, SD. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Clay, Beresford; siblings include Sharon and Jim Miller, Mandan, ND and Duane and Marlys Clay, Beresford; brothers-in-law Howard and Jule Schoellerman, Hawarden, IA and Gordon and Donna Schoellerman, Alcester, SD and their families. Many other relatives and friends survive Darrel. Darrel was preceded in death by his brother David (in infancy), his mother and father in-law, and father Harold (2011). Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Beresford United Church of Christ. A memorial visitation with family present will be at the church on Wednesday from 6PM to 7:30.
