Darlene Judith Singer was born July 3, 1931 in Union County, SD to parents James and Mabelle (Smith) Welch. She passed away after a short illness on February 19, 2016 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 16 days.

She grew up and attended school in Beresford. On July 4, 1948, she married Alex Singer. To this union two children were born. Darlene spent most of her life in Beresford where she worked in area restaurants, Case Pharmacy and the Beresford school lunch room. They lived in Wayne, NE for 17 years where she worked with her husband laying carpet. In 1989 they moved back to Beresford and Darlene worked at Bethesda Nursing Home for 17 years. Darlene's family was very important to her and she cherished the time she spent with them.

She is survived by her son Kenneth (Carolyn) Singer, Lincoln, NE; her daughter Carol (Larry) Speich, Beresford; three grandchildren, Jason (Beth) Singer, Shakopee, MN, Matthew Singer, Minneapolis, MN and Penny Speich, Brookings, SD; two great grandchildren, Dane and Evelyn Singer, Shakopee, MN; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mabelle, husband Alex, sisters, Winona, Leona, Mildred, and Ethel, and her brother Howard.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
