Darlene Kiewel was born February 9, 1925 in Alexandria, SD. She died September 7, 2011 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 86 years. Darlene graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. She married Lawrence Kiewel on September 25, 1943. The couple moved to Alcester in 1958. She worked at Dakota Industries, Raven Manufacturing and at Morningside Manor. They moved into Alcester after retiring from farming. Lawrence died in August of 2010 and Darlene continued to reside here until the present time. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was currently a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Among her hobbies and interests were reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by four sons, David Kiewel and wife Judy of Worthing, SD, Steven Kiewel and wife Rozann of Alcester, Robert Kiewel and wife Sandy of Kallispell, Montana and Bradley Kiewel and wife Lori of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:30PM, Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester. Visitation will be one hour prior to services and the church.
