Darlene was united in marriage to Edward Hartman on November 6, 1953 at the Hawarden Baptist Church in Hawarden, IA.  Together they farmed on several farms in the Alcester area and Darlene worked several jobs outside the home. Following Edward's passing in 1991, Darlene moved into Alcester and finished her working years at Custom Coils.

After her retirement, Darlene enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizen's Center and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to feed and watch the antics of her squirrel, Fred, in front of her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Hila; her husband, Edward; sister, Delores and two brothers-in-law, Duane and John.

She is survived by her sister, LaRae; her brother, Roger; two sons, Broc Hartman and his wife, Cheryl of Lennox and Steven Hartman and his wife, Carol of Alcester; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Katy), Jesse (Jamie), Chris (Kristi), Jeremy (Kylie), Dan (Marina) and Tim; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be 4-8PM Wednesday at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 6-8PM.
