Obituary

Dallas Allen Thompson passed away at Ava's Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD on October 4, 2024.
Dallas was born on October 11, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD to Henry and La Verne Thompson. He grew up on a farm northeast of Beresford, SD and attend Pleasant Valley Country School through the 8 grade. He graduated from Beresford high school in 1969. While in high school he was active in wrestling and went to State Wrestling his senior year. Also while in high school he helped his dad with farming. After he graduated he did custom combining for a local farmer until he decided to visit family in Oregon. Dallas met his soon to be wife, Linda while in Oregon and he fell in love with her at first sight. They were married on August 11, 1973. They lived in Oregon for three years where he worked at Crown Zellerbach Paper Company. In 1975 Dallas and Linda moved back to South Dakota and settled in Alcester. He worked for Dakota Industries and later for Raven where he learned how to repair sewing machines which he loved and enjoyed so much. Dallas and Linda had their first child, Heather, on July 10, 1976 and the second, Jason, on July 4, 1978.
Dallas was baptized at Big Springs Baptist Church on January 1, 1978. Since that time he has been very active helping out wherever needed: vacation bible school, Wednesday night church, building a playground, and attending pastor's bible studies. He had a deep love for the Lord. Dallas loved showing off his sewing skills and was often referred to as Doctor Sewing Machine and he was glad to make all those women happy. He enjoyed playing all card games, board games, and puzzles in his spare time. He especially enjoyed going to 9:00 coffee club Monday through Friday and having a cinnamon roll while visiting with the guys. He loved being with his grandchildren and playing games with them and watching them grow into wonderful teenagers and adults.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents Henry and LaVerne Thompson; bothers Dean, Doug, and Dale; sister June; and many beloved aunts and uncles.
Dallas is survived by his wife Linda (Kotzian) Thompson of 51 years; his children Heather (Tom) Trowbridge, Jason (Jaclyn) Thompson; Grandchildren: Neil, Noelle, Charlotte, and David Trowbridge and Isaac, Elijah, and Alexis Thompson; Brother Dennis (Marlys) Thompson; Sisters JoAnn (Art) Taylor, Janis Gordon, Judy Steinfadt (Jon Cramblett), and Joelle Baarley; a total of 18 nieces and nephews.
