Funeral services for Cy Smolik will be held 11AM, Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford and then resuming at 6:30PM at Roseni Lutheran Church with the family present from 7PM to 8PM. Clarence Cy Smolik was born February 21, 1943 in Mobridge, SD to parents Ted and Anna (Dalgren) Smolik. He died March 19, 2006 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 63 years and 28 days. Cy attended rural school through eighth grade and graduated from Timberlake High School in 1960. He graduated from USD with his Masters degree in teaching. Cy taught freshman English and junior and senior Accounting classes at Beresford High School for 32 years, retiring in 1997. He spent many seasons coaching. On November 28, 1968, Cy married Jeanette Wevik. They farmed 10 miles south of Beresford and raised their two children, Saretta and Matthew. Cy was active at Roseni Lutheran Church; he is a past president of the church council and the mission society. He was an avid sports fan and great storyteller. He loved fishing and hunting, especially with his three dogs. Cy kept busy after retiring from teaching. He started C & J Enterprises that oversaw the Grandview Addition in Beresford and was a carpenter with Smolik Construction. He delivered mail for Hoversdahl for five years. Cy is a past member of the Beresford Lions Club and loved to eat breakfast and visit at Emilys in Beresford. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Beresford; one daughter, Saretta (Alejandro) Smolik Cavazos of Mission, TX; one son, Matthew Smolik and his special friend, Amy Bennett of Sioux Falls; mother-in-law, Mildred Wevik of Beresford; seven siblings, Jim (Bonnie) Smolik of Blaine, WA, Galen (Kathy) Smolik of Idaho Falls, ID, Karla (Larry) Sprenger of Sioux Falls, Ned (Gloria) Smolik of Spearfish, Dorothy Lynch of Kalispell, MT, Donna (Kelly) Chapman of Moville, IA and Phil Smolik of Mobridge; brother-in-law, Merle Wevik of Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law, Jan (Roger) Smith of Marshalltown, IA, 17 nieces and nephews; and special relatives, Viola Wevik, Eldean (Eleanor) Wevik, Delona Johnson and Clinton (Beverly) Wetrosky; and numerous special friends. Preceding Cy in death were his parents; brother, Victor Smolik; father-in-law, Elmer Wevik and brother-in-law, Wesley Lynch.
