Obituary

Cory James Muhlenkort, 35, passed away in his home on Friday, April 5, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, SD.

Cory James Muhlenkort was born in Sioux Falls, SD on March 17, 1984 to Jim and Cindy Muhlenkort. He attended school in Beresford, graduating from Beresford High School in 2003. After graduating from high school, Cory worked at Slumberland, volunteered in the Beresford's fire department, and co-owned a lawn service business until he found his calling working in the sales department at Sioux Corporation in Beresford.  On March 25, 2006 he married Brooke Penney. Cory had one daughter, Camryn Jae Muhlenkort. In 2014, Cory and his family moved to Spring, Texas where he worked in the sales department at Master Rig International.

Cory enjoyed being a father, working on and riding his motorcycle, and participating in charity events hosted by Master Rig. He was a member of a motorcycle club, Rig Riders, and liked to spend weekends riding with other club members. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. Cory was able, through his work, to travel to Egypt, Turkey, and the Philippines and enjoyed meeting colleagues and clients from around the world. At home, Cory spent time as an amateur pitmaster. He learned to smoke a variety of meats and would often share his recipes and techniques with friends and family.  He is remembered as a man with a ready smile and an eagerness to help his co-workers, friends, and family. He was a gentle man who loved to laugh and was always ready to lend a hand whenever it was needed. He especially loved spending time with his daughter, Camryn.

Cory is survived by his parents, Jim and Cindy (Voegeli) Muhlenkort, his siblings Nicole (JD) Ackman, Jaccii (Curt) Hoffbeck, and Natalee Muhlenkort (fiancée Cody Horlyk), and his daughter, Camryn Muhlenkort. He also leaves behind numerous friends, co-workers, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents (Kenneth and Gwynneth Voegeli), his paternal grandparents (Leo and Ann Muhlenkort), and his uncles (Kevin Voegeli, Kent Voegeli, and Kyle Voegeli).

An account has been established at First Savings Bank, 201 N 3rd Street, Beresford, SD  57004 to benefit Cory's daughter, Camryn Muhlenkort. Memorials may be directed to that account.
