Clayton "Lefty" Snedeker, 74, of Alcester, SD died April 20, 2014 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester. Memorial services will be 10AM Saturday, April 26th at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Clayton was born March 30, 1940 in Hudson, SD to Bryan and Helen (Homandberg) Snedeker. He died April 20, 2014 with his family by his side at Morningside Care Center in Alcester at the age of 74 years. He was raised in the Hudson area and graduated from Hudson High School in 1957. Layton served four years in the US Army. He returned to South Dakota and worked at several jobs including electrical and carpentry work, building grain elevators and also for Alcester Meats. Clayton was united in marriage to Rosemary Hass on June 19, 1965 in Canton, SD. They lived on a farm near Hudson and in Hudson before moving to Alcester in 1986. Lefty is best known for operating the Alcester Bar for almost 25 years. He has been at Morningside Care Center since October 21, 2011 after suffering a stroke. Lefty cherished time spent with his family and friends and enjoyed watching sports, college and professional football, professional baseball, basketball and softball. His favorite teams were the Iowa Hawkeyes and Miami Dolphins. You could always find him watching a John Wayne movie or Gunsmoke or Bonanza on TV. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He had an eye catching smile and a great sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Snedeker of Alcester; sons, Keith Snedeker of Tempe, AZ and Scott Snedeker of Alcester; daughters, Dawn (Eli) Seeley of Springfield, VA and Ashley Snedeker and her fiancé, Dustin Oberg; five grandchildren, Brandon, Juliann, Trip, Colton and Anna; brothers, Ken (Aggie) Snedeker of Hudson and Lloyd (Judy) Snedeker of Beresford; and sister, Marcia (Jim) Singer of Merril, IA. His parents and brother, Merlyn, preceded him in death.
