Claudia Jacobsen, 68, of Alcester, SD, formerly of Dickinson, ND, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls. Claudia Jean was born February 28, 1946 in Powers Lake, ND to Dan and Ruth (Moody) Breding. She was raised and educated in Kenmare, ND and graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul, MN. She married Dwight Jacobsen July 29, 1967 in Kenmare. Claudia worked as a Registered Nurse for 11 years at St. Joseph Hospital in Minot, ND. The family moved to Dickinson, ND in 1978 to open the first Jacobsen Music store. There she worked at St. Joseph Hospital and the SW District Health Unit before starting at St. Luke's Home in 1980. Claudia truly loved her job as a nurse. She was an active charter member of Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church in Dickinson and the Scripture Secretary for the Gideon's Auxiliary. Following Dwight's death in 1996, Claudia moved into the new Park Avenue Villa independent care facility in Dickinson where she was the housing director until 2005. She moved to Alcester, SD to be near her daughters family. Claudia loved spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren, who knew her as "Grandma Gum". Her life was full and she lived it well. If one word can sum up her life it would be "faithful". Her positive attitude was always present through her many health trials and the genuine love she had for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was evident every day. She is survived by her daughter, Christi (John) Wegh of Alcester; son, Tim Jacobsen of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Shannon (Ashley) Wegh and Jessica Wegh all of Sioux Falls, Joycee and Jett Jacobsen of Bismarck; sister, Kay (Cliff) Netz of Maple Grove, MN and brother, Daniel Breding of Aurora, CO. Also surviving are her father and mother in-law, Etlar (Elaine) Jacobsen of Minot; brother-in-law, Dale (Susan) Jacobsen of Garrison, ND; sister-in-law, Donna (Darry) Roos, brother-in-law, Dennis (Christie) Jacobsen all of Minot; special lifelong friends, Don (Sharon) Hutchisson of Dallas, TX and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Claudia's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Dougherty Hospice and Morningside Care Center in Alcester. Funeral services will be 2PM Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Alcester Baptist Church and 10AM Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dickinson with burial to follow at 6PM at Flaxton Rural Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
