Clarion Helmer Thormodsgaard was born March 7, 1931 in the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, Iowa to Eric and Ina (Broline) Thormodsgaard. He died January 11, 2021 at his home in rural Hudson, South Dakota at the age of 89 years.

He attended Elmwood country school in Lincoln County and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD in 1949. After graduating from high school Clarion farmed with his father and then Tim DeLay. He was involved with farming his entire life.

Clarion was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Moe Parish where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served on several church and cemetery boards. He loved to travel to Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, Washington DC and Norway.

He is survived by two nephews, Daniel Thormodsgaard and David Thormodsgaard and their families; two nieces, Joyce and Julie and their families; special friend and farming partner, Tim DeLay and his wife, Ann and their two daughters, Alli and Lexi DeLay; several relatives and friends. Clarion was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Curtis Thormodsgaard and his wife, Glennys.

Funeral services will be 10AM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and masks are requested. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to McCrossan Boys Ranch at www.mccrossan.org .
