Cheryl Ann Sere was born June 7, 1947 in Viborg, SD to Laurence and Ardelle (Georgeson) Hansen. She passed away at Sanford Health Ava's House on December 25, 2023 at the age of 76.
She graduated from Irene, SD High School and attended some college for Arts and Theater. She married Robert (Bob) Georgeson on October 15, 1967, in Irene, SD at the Lutheran Church. Cheryl and Bob lived in Presho, SD before calling Centerville, SD their home. During their marriage, she spent her time at home taking care of their daughter (Bobbie), babysitting, bowling and visiting her parents on their farm outside of Irene.
On April 28, 1985, Cheryl married Jared (Jerry) Sere in Centerville, SD at Scandia Lutheran Church. They took over management of The Square Deal Restaurant on November 1, 1985 and renamed it Cher's and Jer's Café. They enjoyed their time managing this café until the fall of 1989.
She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD. When Cheryl was not in the kitchen, she enjoyed all varieties of painting, doing crossword puzzles, playing piano, and whipping out her accordion at random times. She also dabbled in selling Tupperware and Amway. You could always find her watching her favorite game shows, Wheel of Fortune, People Puzzler and most recently Raid the Cage; Sundays and Mondays were football days only. The Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays; there was always some type of baked good readily available for family and friends when they came over. You would never see her without a cup of coffee or her puzzle book in her hand. She enjoyed watching the squirrels outside her windows and had so much love for her family, friends and many dogs including Snoopy, Fifi, Mitzy, Boo, Sebastian, Princess and Miya.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter Bobbie (Jim) Bye of Sioux Falls, SD; step-son Dan Sere of Canton, SD; step-daughter JerriLynn Dickens of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, Samantha Bye of Sioux Falls, SD, Cody (Justine) Bye of Tea, SD; five great-grandchildren, Cannon Voegeli of Sioux Falls, SD; Paisley and Easton Bye of Tea, SD; Andrew and Aiden Dickens of Kansas City, MO and many beloved nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Ardelle Hansen; her brother, Larry Hansen; and her husband, Jerry Sere.
