Obituary

Charlotte M. Nilson was born October 18, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA to parents John and Alfa (Hardesty) Middleton. She passed away September 14, 2015 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 26 days. Charlotte graduated from Blakesburg High School in 1962. On December 8, 1977, she married Don McSparen. After Don's retirement the couple lived in Texas where Charlotte worked as a bookkeeper for several R.V. parks and also worked many years for the Benson family. Don passed away July 7, 1995. Charlotte met Eldon Nilson in 2003 and was later married to him. They resided in Alcester and spent winters in the south. Charlotte loved to travel and took many trips with Eldon in the winter months. They traveled extensively through the southern United States and Mexico and took many cruises out of Florida. Her other hobbies included reading and watching television shows about Big Foot and science fiction. Charlotte enjoyed wildlife and also dearly loved her dogs she owned over the years. God bless her memory and her impact on the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, a sister Tamara, and two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Kole. She is survived by her husband Eldon Nilson, Alcester; step mother Leatha Middleton, Ottumwa, IA; 4 step daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Hedgecock, Noblesville, IN, Liz Tramontana and her fiancé Hank Randle, Sun City, AZ, Carrie (Art) Tveit, Beresford, and Carla (Larry) Havlin, Alcester; 2 step sons, Brian (Margaret) Nilson, Austin, TX and Loren (Carla) Nilson, LeMars, IA; 7 step grandchildren, Jeremiah Nilson, Joseph Lau, Kelle Nilson, Abbey Nilson, Dustin Havlin, Daniel Havlin and Michelle Havlin; 4 step great grandchildren; two brothers, John "Junior" (Joyce) Middleton, Grand Junction, CO and Walter (Lana) James, Millersburg, IA; 3 step-sisters, Marlyn (Bruce) Copeland, Lin Drumm and Helen (Ron) Campbell; step brother Richard Findling; her special friends, Margaret Bern, Alcester and Amanda Rodriguez, San Antonio, TX; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donations may be directed to the South Dakota Lion's Eye and Tissue Bank. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, September 21, 2015 at Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, SD, with burial to follow at the Nora Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2PM to 4PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester.
