Charlene G. Johnson was born January 13, 1927 in Akron, Iowa to parents Gunnard and Elvena (Malstrom) Carlson. She died December 27, 2018 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 14 days.

Charlene attended Danefield country school and worked for a time for Dr. Leitzke in Beresford. She married William "Bill" Johnson in 1957.  The couple made their home on a farm north of Beresford. Charlene was a devoted member of Komstad Covenant Church where she taught Sunday School and also served as the Sunday School superintendent. Charlene enjoyed growing a garden every summer and sewing.

Following their retirement from farming they moved into Beresford in 2014. Bill died December 20, 2016.

She is survived by her son, Keith Johnson and his wife Linda of Earth, TX; her two brothers, Marvin Carlson and his wife Delores of Beresford, SD and Eldean Carlson and his wife Carol of Fairfield, IA; her sister-in-law, Ethel Hughes of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Bill, and her daughter, Nancy.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2018 at Komstad Covenant Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
