Cecil LeRoy Wilmot, age 83, of Alcester, South Dakota, formally of Casper, Wyoming died October 6, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Cecil L. Wilmot was born on May 13, 1925 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Clyde and Martha (Smith) Wilmot. Cecil left high school on March 29, 1944 to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during WWII in France and Germany. After being wounded and unable to serve on the front lines, Cecil became an MP with the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge on May 22, 1946. Cecil was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He received recognition and awards for his patriotism for proudly displaying the American flag and patriotic displays in Casper.
After returning from the war, Cecil married Jaunita Cooper on September 1, 1946 in Whitebead, Oklahoma. During his life, Cecil farmed, worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, and retired from Little America Oil Refinery in Casper. He had a great love for the outdoors including fishing, hunting, camping, rock collecting and gardening. Jaunitas death in 1998 and Cecil moved to Alcester, SD in 1999.
Preceding Cecil in death, his wife, Jaunita (Cooper), parents Clyde Cleveland and Martha Ann (Smith) Wilmot, brothers: Curtis, Loyd, Robert, sister Edna Mae Powers, and granddaughter Brenda Jolene Quick.
Grateful for sharing his life are his three daughters, Cenita (Jim) Quick of Alcester, SD, LeWanda Wilmot and Tena (Jim) Verhey all of Grand Junction, Colorado. Granddaughters Catina (Jeff) Nesheim of Aiea, Hawaii, Kristie Hill of Ringgold, Georgia, Dawn Hill of Wichita, Kansas. Great-grandchildren: Madalyn and Amelia Neshiem, Natasha and Chance Taylor and Lance Franklin.
A private committal service will be held at Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund at the Alcester State Bank for the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
