The doors of heaven opened wide to welcome Carter James Engbarth, our precious son, on May 3, 2018. Carter was born May 12, 2006, to Jamie and Andrea Engbarth in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. From birth, Carter was a true "ray of sunshine" in our home, spreading fun and laughter wherever he went. We were privileged to watch him grow and mature into a happy, active child with many friends. He loved to draw tractors, all kinds of muscle cars, farm equipment, and he could name the types of vehicles that he drew. He loved reading and gobbled up information which he shared with anyone who wished to visit with him. He was a gentleman, and greeted others with a handshake and a smile. Carter loved God and had asked Jesus into his heart at a very young age. He treated others with kindness and respect. He was an all round boy, loving to help his farmer friends, especially Don Christensen and their entire family, doing all kinds of farm chores. He was an excellent student, excelling in academics, music, and art. He played percussion in the fifth grade band, and loved the drums. In the fall, he loved basketball and playing on the team. He enjoyed swimming and baseball in the summer. Carter loved spending time with his family and friends, watching movies, hiking, playing Xbox, riding his four-wheeler, going to car shows, and being the light of our family. Carter was truly an "old soul" loving everything from the 70's and 80's especially "Dukes of Hazzard", "Smokey and the Bandit", and anything with wheels. After Carter's passing, his classmates decorated his school locker with "I love you Carter" and the very fitting description of Carter: Caring, Artistic, Respectful, Teammate, Encouraging, Remembered. Carter's family was blessed to know him and love him. Life will not be the same without Carter.
He is survived by his parents Jamie and Andrea Engbarth; his sister Gabrielle; his dog Louie; and a host of friends. His grandparents who loved him dearly are David and Marilyn Aronson; Dennis and Dianne Lundblad; William and Carolyn Engbarth. His aunts are Stacy (Engbarth) Welch and Mary (Danneman) Engbarth, and his cousins are Riley Engbarth, Brooke Engbarth, Ivy Engbarth, and Sage Welch. He has many great aunts and uncles who loved him dearly, as well as special cousins on both sides of his extended family, who were devoted to him.
He was preceded in death by his Uncle John Engbarth, Uncle Billy Engbarth, Grandpa Paul Carlson and several great-grandparents on both sides. People who knew Carter heard his plans for the future in farming and being an engineer for John Deere. God bless Carter's memory and all of us who must cope with our loss. Memorials can be sent to Carter's Memorial Fund at First Dakota Bank.
A Celebration of Carter's Life will be held at 5PM Sunday, May 6th, 2018 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be at the church from 3-5PM.
