Carroll E. Hansen was born April 22, 1914 in rural Clay County, South Dakota to parents C. Edward and Ella (Hansen) Hansen. He died June 7, 2007 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 15 days. Carroll attended Prairie Center rural school and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1931. He then worked for area farmers. He married Irene Willey on September 12, 1935 at Roseni Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in rural Clay County, SD. They moved to Sioux Falls where Carroll drove truck for John Morrell Co. during World War II. He returned to Clay County and farmed until 1950 when they moved to Beresford. Carroll was employed as a salesman for Reed Sales for several years and then served as the Beresford City Finance Officer until his retirement in 1979. Irene passed away in January of 2002. Carroll later moved into the Bethesda Nursing Home and greatly appreciated the care and friendship he received while living there. Carroll was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford where he was active in many roles which included serving as the parish president. He was also a past member of the Beresford Lions Club and the South Dakota Municipal League, having served as President for both of those organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Harley. His survivors include a daughter, Evonne (Robert) Frieberg, Beresford; 3 grandchildren: Susan (Randy) Jensen, Beresford, Charles (Diane) Frieberg, Yankton, and Thomas (Jill) Frieberg, Beresford; 8 great grandchildren, 5 step- great grandchildren and a great-great grandson; brother Eldon Hansen, Vermillion; two sisters: Adele (Oscar) Jackson, Alcester and Elaine (Robert) Brown, Vermillion; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Beresford Area Community Foundation, Box 84, Beresford, SD 57004 Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, June 11 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford. Visitation will be Sunday from 4PM to 7PM with family present from 6PM to 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
