Carrol Ann Heidebrecht was born October 6, 1941 in Centerville, South Dakota to Ole and Lila (Myers) Halverson. She got to meet Jesus face to face on May 29, 2024.
Carrol was raised on the family farm near Centerville with her older brother, Ole Jr. She attended country school during 6th and 7th grade because the school in Centerville had burned, but she returned to Centerville school in 8th grade. After graduating from Centerville High School Carrol attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls. She was baptized and a member of Federated United Church of Christ. Carrol was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 54 years.
She married the love of her life, Larry Heidebrecht, at Federated UCC on September 24, 1960. Carrol went with Larry to Fort Hood, Texas in November 1961 when he was drafted into the US Army. Together, Carrol and Larry were blessed with two children, Jeff and Staci. After returning from the Army, both Carrol and Larry worked hard on the farm. Carrol was an expert with the riding lawnmower, walking beans with a corn knife, milking cows, and delivering lunches to Larry in the field. She was great at pitching an old canvas tent and preparing food for the family camping trips to Yankton while Larry did the farming and milked the cows.
Carrol loved children most of all and she dedicated her life to working with children at the Centerville school for 31 years. She was also the best mom and grandma ever! All the grandkids could count on treats at Grandma's, even if it was a toasted bagel cut with a scissor and served with a toothpick. Grandma Carrol taught her grandkids more about real life than anyone else ever did.
Carrol enjoyed many winters in Arizona, and she and Larry traveled many, many unnecessary miles in the car, just going for a ride.
She met the challenges of life with grace, humility and a sense of humor until the very end of her life, when Larry was holding her hand and walking her home, right into the arms of Jesus.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brother, Ole Jr.; sister-in-law, Theresa Halverson; two brothers-in-law, Phil and Arnold "Butch" Heidebrecht; and one grandson, Zach Heidebrecht.
Carrol is survived by her husband, Larry of Sioux Falls; son, Jeff (Jill) Heidebrecht of Beresford; daughter, Staci Bennett (Denny Aune) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Broch (Jen), Derek (Skylar), Dylan (Amanda), Hunter (Taiya) Heidebrecht, Kayla (JR) Harris, Blake (Daisy) Brandon (RaeLyn) and Brady (Laiken) Bennett. Carrol enjoyed her 11 great-grandchildren, Asa, Cain, Kaiser, Alina and Mila Heidebrecht, and Oliver, Presley, Mia Grace, Dexter and Haddie Rae Bennett; she was eager to meet her 12th great-grandchild, Baby Girl Heidebrecht, to be born in August of 2024.
