Graveside services will be 10AM Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Nora Cemetery, Nora, South Dakota followed by a Celebration of Life at Morningside Event Center, 307 E 6th Street, Alcester.
Carrie Anette Tveit was born February 23, 1962 in Hudson, South Dakota to Eldon and Waneta (Boutz) Nilson. She passed away peacefully on March 20, 2023 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 61 years and 27 days.
Carrie was raised on the family farm south of Alcester, South Dakota, and attended Ludwig County School before graduating from Beresford High School. She enjoyed her time while attending the Country School so much that she often talked about it later on in life. As she got older, she lived her life like a gypsy by not staying in one place for too long but always ended back in South Dakota to be close to family. She lived in Omaha, Houston, Phoenix, and Reno before returning to South Dakota where she lived in the Alcester area. Eventually she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before meeting her husband Art. Shortly after meeting, they moved down to Carolina, Puerto Rico where they lived for a decade. Her time there was spent with plenty of walks on the beaches and even had an adventure on a yacht that spanned from Puerto Rico to Florida. She moved back to South Dakota to be close to her family yet again. In the years to follow, she enjoyed her time helping on the family farm, gardening, caring for family members, spending time with her grandchildren and extended family.
She will be remembered for thoroughly enjoying talking about alternative medicine, reminiscing about her time in the Caribbean, soaking up the sun any time of year, love for reading, love for ice cream, her desire to travel, and enjoying crafting many different items.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Eldon and Waneta (Boutz), an infant sister, Rita Renee Nilson, and her nephews, Kyle Evan and Kole Andrew Nilson.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Art Tveit of Beresford, South Dakota; sons, Jeremiah Nilson of Alcester and Joseph (Amanda) Lau of Tualatin, Oregon; four grandchildren, Josiah, Paisha, Ryker and Anja; siblings, Brian (Margaret) Nilson of Austin, Texas, Loren (Carla) Nilson of Le Mars, Iowa, Liz Randall of Buckeye, Arizona and Carla (Larry) Havlin of Peoria, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
