Carol Ihlene Voegeli, age 80, of Beresford, SD passed away on November 8, 2023 at
her home. Carol Ihlene (Thormodsgaard) Voegeli was born August 11, 1943 at the
Lydia Nelson Home in Beresford to Ingert and Clara (Johnson) Thormodsgaard. She
was the youngest of three children. Carol was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran
faith and a lifetime member of Romsdal Lutheran Church. As a child she attended
Pleasant Hill School, Dist. #55 near Beresford. She attended her freshman year at
Alcester High School and graduated from Beresford High School in 1961. In the fall of
1961, she attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls and was later
employed at Northwestern National Bank in Sioux Falls.
On July 15, 1967 Carol married Lester Voegeli at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural
Beresford. Lester and Carol were the Third Generation farming the Voegeli Homestead.
They made their life joyous operating the grain and dairy farm. They received
numerous DHIA awards, with one cow rating 3rd in the state for total production.
Together they were in the Dairy business for 27 years with Carol as the master at
raising the dairy calves. She raised 840 calves and only lost 4 total in all the years.
Carol took pride in naming every one of the calves. Her devotion to the calves was great
and she worked well with her Border Collie, Tippy, keeping them all in the right places.
Carol was a devoted member of the Romsdal Lutheran Church, the Womens'
Evangelical Lutheran Church Assoc. and the Romsdal Women's group where she held
various offices and worked together on several committees. Carol also enjoyed serving
on the Board of Directors for the Corporate Board of Maximum Promotions for many
years.
Carol enjoyed traveling with her husband, Les. Together they enjoyed going to
NASCAR races, especially the Daytona 500 and Kansas City Motor Speedway. Florida
was a favorite destination with all of their friends. Carol had a soft spot for her furry
friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. She
loved the responsibilities of raising cats, especially her house cat, Tate. She always
enjoyed being together with her family and friends. Carol will always be remembered for
her kindness and smile. We'll always imagine hearing her say, "Uffda" one more time.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ingert and Clara, and her brother James
(Jim) Thormodsgaard.
Carol is survived by her husband Lester of 56 years, one brother Gene (Carol Ann)
Thormodsgaard of Beresford, SD, one sister-in-law, Bonnie Thormodsgaard of Sioux
Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be November 12, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.at Wass Funeral Home in
Beresford with Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be November 13, 2023
at 2:00 p.m. at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural Beresford with burial in Romsdal
Cemetery.
