Carol Rose Tschudy passed from this life at the age of 85 years on June 2, 2025 in Phoenix, AZ where she had made her home for the past 8 months, living with her Niece and Goddaughter Renee and Renee's husband Craig Micek. Carol was born on a farm south of the town of Beresford, SD to Meril and Myrtle Tschudy, the 4th of 5 children. She attended Rainy Vale country school for 8 years and then Beresford High school in town, from which she graduated as Salutatorian of her Senior Class.
Following graduation, she accepted employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. She started out as a typist and stenographer, progressed to secretary and then Administrative Assistant to an FBI director, then to Program Analyst position before retiring with 37 years of service. She then accepted a job working for an office of the Inspector General, whose job it was to rid the labor union of organized crime. She retired from that job after an additional 14 years.
Her time in Washington spanned 63 years. She watched many inaugural parades and attended functions at which the sitting president was speaker, her FBI office was actively involved in deposing President Nixon, her condo was directly across from the pentagon making her a witness to the sad events of 9/11, and she was proud of her adopted city and loved to show visitors around when they came to town.
Carol was active in her church Faith Lutheran in Falls Church, VA and served in many roles including financial secretary, budget committee chair, and was head of the Altar Guild for many years.
While Carol never married or had children, she remained close to her nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and was very proud of them all.
Carol is proceeded in death by her parents and her sister Beverly.
She is survived by her sister June Thompson of Gresham, Oregon and her 3 sons, Steven Thompson, Richard Thompson, and David Thompson and their families, all of Gresham Oregon; Her brother Raymond Tschudy and wife Donna and their 3 daughters Roxanne Tschudy of Sioux Falls SD, Renee Micek of Glendale, AZ, and Connie Kerwin of Sioux Falls, SD and their families; and brother Meril Tschudy and wife Phyllis and their children Lori Tschudy-Pathania of Staten Island, NY, Michael Tschudy of Harrisburg, SD, and Scott Tschudy of Presho, SD and their families.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 2pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford South Dakota. Light refreshments following service, graveside service at Beresford Cemetery.
