Carol Nygaard was born November 28, 1935 in Centerville, SD to parents Leonard and Hilda (DeBoer) Bertrand. She died June 4, 2008 at her home in Beresford, SD at the age of 72 years. Carol graduated from Centerville High School in 1953. She married Douglas D. Nygaard on June 15, 1953. The couple lived for a while in Sioux Falls and then moved back to Beresford. They also enjoyed spending winters in Tarpon Springs, FL. Carol worked at Truck Towne in Beresford and then was the credit manager at G.T.A. Feeds in Ellis, SD until her retirement in 1998. Doug passed away in 2006 and Carol continued to reside in Beresford until the present time. Carol attended the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Centerville and then attended St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. She belonged to the Beresford American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries, and the Beresford and Tarpon Springs, FL Red Hat Societies. Carol loved spending time with her family and friends and hosted many reunions and events for them. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Douglas. Her survivors include her son Douglas Nygaard II and wife Carol Ann of Beresford; four grandchildren: Shannon Carlson (Jon Fry), Centerville, Joshua (Jamie) Nygaard, Centerville, Jonathan Nygaard, Ocala, FL and Megan Nygaard, Beresford; 6 great grandchildren: Kaydence and Adyson Nygaard and Jerad, Jon, Jr., Olivia and Easton Fry; one brother Charles (Deb) Bertrand, Centerville; five sisters: Rose Marie (Lester) Austin, Centerville, Marilyn (Clay) Smebakken, Reston, VA, Barbara (Burdette) Johnson, Sioux Falls, Diane (Al) Forbes, Monument, CO and Pam (Barry) Samulcek, Kansas City, MO: and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Beresford, with burial at the Beresford Cemetery. Visitation will family present will be Sunday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
