Carol Elmer Carlson was born March 11, 1921 in Union County, SD to parents Otto and Esther (Frick) Carlson. He died December 2, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 21 days. Carol was a lifelong member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended Newdale country school. Carol was instrumental in establishing the Ben Carlson Memorial Softball Field. He served in the US Army during WWII and received his honorable discharge in 1946. Carol worked with his brothers, Leonard and Benhard, in farming, running a dairy operation and doing carpentry work. They built several homes in the Beresford area, including their own on their farmstead south of Beresford. He also worked for several years at Kruse Building Center in Beresford. Carol enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers, Benhard, Leonard and Roscoe; sister, Lucille Cole; and nephews, David Buechler and Johnathan Carlson preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Lois Carlson of Beresford; niece, Patti Buechler of Chancellor; nephews, Ron (Sandy) Carlson, Gary (Katie) Carlson and Don (Elma) Carlson all of Beresford; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and called him "Uncle Carol". Uncle Carol will be missed dearly. We cherished his presence. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD. Visitation with the family present will be 6-8PM Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7PM.
