Carmen Mollie (Keiser) Staum was born May 17, 1917 to parents George and Mary (Anderson) Keiser in Alcester, SD. She died November 5, 2006 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 18 days. Carmen attended Alcester schools and graduated from Alcester High School in 1935. She married Marvin Staum on September 26, 1940. They lived their entire married life on the family farm south of Beresford. Marvin passed away in March of 1995 and Carmen continued to live on the farm until 2002 when she moved to Beresford. Carmen was a member of Roseni Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years and held several offices in church organizations. She worked at Morningside Manor in Alcester for 11 years. She volunteered at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford and entertained residents by playing their favorite songs. Carmen loved to cook and bake and was famous for her bean soup. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step mother Daisy Keiser, sister Fern Smith of Tulsa, OK and brother Clayton of Beresford. Carmen is survived by her son Roger Staum and wife Patricia of Daytona Beach, FL; granddaughter Tisha Scott and husband Corey of Jefferson City, MO; 2 grandsons: Jason Staum and wife Becky of Jefferson City, MO and Christian Staum and wife Lin of St. Louis, MO; 5 great-grandsons: Harrison, Benjamin, and Jacob Scott, and Phillip Staum and Russell Williams all of Jefferson City, MO; sisters-in-law Donna Keiser of Beresford and Lorraine Staum of Elk Point, SD; and many nieces, nephews, family and wonderful friends. Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Friday, November 10 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
